Stephen Johns

I was born in Cornwall in the South West of England, travelled the world in the Navy and went to University in the South of France. I now divide most of my time between Brussels, where I have lived for over thirty-five years and Rome.
I have always been keen on photography, from my first Box Brownie and my Grandfather's Zeiss Ikon through to my OM-1 but family commitments, a busy career and an aversion to the smell of dark room chemicals always prevented me from taking it up seriously. To my delight, the digital revolution has coincided with a great increase in my free time, a large part of which is now devoted to photography.
I concentrate on the view through the lens, with minimal post-treatment on the computer. This is because the aim of my work is to make people aware of things and of aspects of scenes which they see every day without ever really looking at them and through this, to provoke their deeper reflection on where we are, who we are and where we think we are going.
