| Originally from London, I am now ‘settled’ in Brussels, since moving here for work, with my family, in 2005. As a hydrogeologist for an international company my work often takes me to unusual and sometimes remote locations, providing great opportunities for photography. What you are is ultimately influenced by all the cultures you come into contact with, especially those you live amongst. Living as an expatriate is itself a form of perpetual travel, and the only way to have a chance of truly getting to ‘know’ a country. This is true with Brussels and Belgium, which I like very much, and find highly photogenic – both in their landscapes and people. In my photographs – beyond Belgium, The Old Man of Storr represents the ruggedness of the Scottish character, part true and part romantic myth. Tranquility in Manhattan represents the little piece of calm that is needed and appreciated in any city, as a contrast to a hectic daily life. |
