Paula Cagli

Before moving to Brussels some fifteen years ago I led a sedate life in Rome, Italy. As an art historian with a passion for photography, my greatest delight was to strap on the camera gear and go for long, meditational explorations of the city.
Life in Brussels and the advent of digital photography has changed all that! My husband’s job here has afforded me opportunities that I could have only dreamed of once upon a time. (Thanks, Al!) I love to tag along when he gets sent to exotic places. In the past two years I’ve been to Krakow, Taormina, New York City, Cairo, Istanbul and New Delhi.
Of course, these are not solitary, meditational trips where I can take a tripod and several lenses and spend twenty minutes on a single shot. These are occasions which call for quick thinking and an ingrained ability to compose images. My experience taking architectural photos coupled with the speed of digital photography has enabled me to capture the fleeting image as I travel. The expression of surprise on people’s faces or the lively scenes of a market place hold enormous attraction. It’s a whole new dimension which has increased the fun and expanded the horizons of my photography.
