Jeroen van Gent

Although still very fond of my hometown, Amsterdam, where I was born and raised, I’ve always felt curious about discovering new places. My work in astrophysics and atmospheric sciences has brought me to many countries, helping me to discover and appreciate the rich variety in both the natural and the cultural world around us.
Photography is a wonderful way to document all these wonders. I got my first camera during my early teens and used it mainly to take holiday pictures or long time exposures of the night sky while stargazing in England or France. Slowly, my photography interests broadened and many years of slide photography followed. I have made the transition to digital photography only two years ago.
Four and a half years ago I came to Brussels; a new environment, new discoveries, certainly also on the photography level. It motivated me to find new ways to improve my photo-skills and, hopefully, to steepen my learning curve. Joining Viewfinders has been one of these ways.
The photographic subjects that interest me are still quite varied, although in the the last few years I seem to have concentrated more on man-made objects and their interaction with their environment.
