As a Graphic Designer (freelancing), my pictures tend to be heavily influenced by my profession - I find myself always looking for pleasing patterns, shapes, contrasts and colours (and having lots of copy space, but that's a different matter...).
I've been taking pictures for most of my life, and am still fascinated by their ability to communicate on an almost visceral level - immediate, emotional and storytelling. I still am in awe of how, with a slight nudge, images can be made to reveal hidden aspects of their subjects which otherwise would remain just subliminal.
The pictures I chose, one of the Holocaust Memorial in Berlin, the other in a derelict barracks in Munich, unify those qualities for me - they don't purely reproduce the space they were taken in but they tell you what I saw and what being there made me feel. |
