Successful people photography has several sides. First the 'technical' side - films, lenses, lighting, camera technique, props and so on. Then there's the human side, without which no amount of technical finesse will produce a good photograph - the need to create a relationship with the subject, how to make them feel at ease, and how to take candids without being sued. And usually there's an artistic side, the colours, the composition, the mood… All are essential to photographers who want to capture the essence of that most fascinating subject - our fellow human beings.

This workshop is designed for beginner level onwards. Participants will get most out of the session if they have an SLR camera, either film or digital, however it is not necessary to be highly experienced or totally familiar with its operation.

MAIN TOPICS

Subject decisions - the person, the environment, or both?
Candid shots; the 'how', and the ethics Building rapport and making the subject comfortable.
Natural lighting, indoor lighting, and flash.
When to pose the subject; the importance of the background, using props.
Events - weddings, birthday parties, graduations… Dealing with large groups.
Sports and action photos.
Tips on cameras, films, and digital matters.

LOCATION and FEE: The workshop will be held either at the studios of Creatif Images (in Ixelles, Brussels) or the Hotel Silken Berlaymont in the EU area of Brussels, and will be led by Trevor Waldron. Lunch and refreshments are included in the participation fee of 120 Euros (150 Euros for non-members), plus full notes of the material presented.
