CAMERA CRAFT WORKSHOP

A one-day workshop for keen beginners or casual photographers who now want to learn how to take better photographs, and pick up fundamental but simple techniques.

For dates of the next session see the workshop summary page or the calendar page

Knowing what a camera can do, and how to capture sharp and well-exposed images - and even special effects - all this is fundamental to satisfying photography.

This workshop explains the main components of a camera, what they do to the image, and how to control them. In addition it demonstrates the effect of using different films, the characteristics of various lenses, and how simple accessories such as filters can greatly improve an image. Finally, it shows how best to cope with difficult or unusual lighting conditions.

The session is well illustrated with how-to (and how-not-to…) slides, and participants receive a full set of printed notes. Sessions are limited to a maximum of ten participants to facilitate individual participation.

WHO'S IT FOR? For complete beginners the workshop will be challenging but certainly accessible; for those with some experience it will fill out and structure what they have picked up already.

IS IT PRACTICAL? Very much - most of the skills are easily applicable, and will produce an immediate improvement in image quality and success rate. Equally important, the participant will have a platform of basic principles and vocabulary to enable and encourage future learning.
